The legend of the Mermaid and the Manatee: Imagine sailors who have been on a long voyage, the ocean is misty and overcast, and a graceful image emerges from the ocean! These precious manatees were mistaken as women with fish-like bodies from the waist down, thus the myth of the Mermaid was created. Even Christopher Columbus recorded sitings of Mermaids but later identified them as Manatees.
I created this accordion-style artwork inspired by this Ancient Legend and Myth. Walk from one side of the framed artwork to the opposite side and you will see the Mermaid transition from the Manatee and vice versa.
